Meganisi is a picturesque island in the Ionian Sea. The first name of the island was Tafos, the son of Ippothois, daughter of the Lefkadian Lelega and Poseidon. The island comprises a continuous range of hills called Rahes and has three villages: Vathy, Katomeri and Spartochori. These villages are located in the northern part of the island which is the most favored and most fertile. The southern section called Kefali is a narrow rocky strip of land, which has a length of 6 km and is uninhabited. The traditional architecture, the hospitality, the quiet way of life, the picturesque bays with the fish taverns, the dining and entertainment places, the breathtaking views, the lush landscapes and the crystal waters create an ideal environment for families, couples or on your own to enjoy a wonderful holiday. Spartochori village and the adjoined Spilia bay are located at the northern side of Meganisi. The picturesque bay shelters fishing boats, yachts as well as passing flotillas. The village lies around the natural port of Spartochori and consists of pretty cottages and traditional taverns untouched by the developments of the century. The high-cliff village, along with the deep blue bay presents a stunning panoramic view. With its lush green pine forests, Spartochori is an ideal place for trekking as you can climb up the hill from the bay to reach Spartochori village. The village is colorful with whitewashed houses and courtyards filled with potted plants and has a couple of markets and shops where you can get locally produced products. The taverns offer delicious menus, including fresh fish caught in the bay.
